How to Use a Custom Domain Name for Blogger via Namecheap? To elaborate further, how do you setup a domain you bought from Namecheap to be used for your blogger blog so that instead of having the “BLOGNAME.blogspot.com” type of URL, you will have a much better looking one like this => www.myblog.com ?

Again, the steps I am going to show is for domains bought from Namecheap and Namecheap only so please use your discretion when trying to follow the steps outlined below for a domain bought not from Namecheap. Generally, the steps would be the same but I am going detailed here so there.

Steps for Namecheap Domain Name to Blogger Setup

  1. First, login to your Namecheap account, go to MANAGE DOMAINS and select the domain you want to setup from the list of domains available.
  2. Then, go to HOST MANAGEMENT > ALL HOST RECORDS .
  3. Under SUB-DOMAIN SETTINGS, you will see a total of 10 text boxes and 5 drop-down menus arranged in a tabular (3×5) manner. We will use all of those.
  4. Populate the first row of text boxes and drop-down menu (2 text boxes and 1 drop-down menu) with => “@”, “216.239.32.21″, “A (Address)” respectively without the quotes.
  5. Populate the second row of text boxes and drop-down menu (2 text boxes and 1 drop-down menu) with => “@”, “216.239.34.21″, “A (Address)” respectively without the quotes.
  6. Populate the third row of text boxes and drop-down menu (2 text boxes and 1 drop-down menu) with => “@”, “216.239.36.21″, “A (Address)” respectively without the quotes.
  7. Populate the fourth row of text boxes and drop-down menu (2 text boxes and 1 drop-down menu) with => “@”, “216.239.38.21″, “A (Address)” respectively without the quotes.
  8. Populate the fifth row of text boxes and drop-down menu (2 text boxes and 1 drop-down menu) with => “www”, “ghs.google.com”, “CNAME (Alias)” respectively without the quotes.
  9. Press the SAVE CHANGES button at the bottom of the page.
  10. Login to your blogger account and go to SETTINGS > PUBLISHING.
  11. Type in your custom domain in the first box complete with the www prefix. Check the redirect box under it.
  12. Save the blogger settings.
  13. Normally, they tell you to wait 24-48 hours for the changes to take effect but if you are fortunate, it takes effect just 2-3 hours after following the steps above.

  11. why every time i redirect my namecheap domains to my blogger blog my blog custom domain url or keywords don’t show up on google search engine?? is it possible to get rid of blogspot domain, So that i can see my custom domain.??

  12. Hi Paolo, thank you!!! You have no idea how long I searched for this. Everybody mentioned CNames and Anames but didn’t actually say where, and I would never have known all those numbers to put in. I really appreciate you spelling it out in such a detailed way specficially for NameCheap. Just a quick question – what about the missing files host? Yes or No in that box?

  14. The 24-48 hours domain propagation still holds true, even if you can already access the domain in just 2 hours (I’ve been able to access mine in just minutes). The two-hour access is possible if you’re using OpenDNS, Google DNS and other similar services, but still, the rest of the visitors won’t still be able to access your new domain.

    This depends on the country and the ISP. Some countries and ISPs could see the domain right away, but others won’t. You can ask some friends if they can see the domain or not within that 48-hour period, and you get varied responses.

    In my experience, PLDT seem to have better DNS servers (always updated) as compared to Smart’s. Those who are using Smart connection get to see the new domain after a day.

    I have followed all the steps but still it doesnt’ work. I have been waiting for almost 3 days but when I visited my blog buy typing the registered domain name I saw the blank content in the middle of the page. On the top it says “Welcome! This domain was recently registered at namecheap.com. The domain owner may currently be creating a great site for this domain. Please check back later!”

    I don’t know if i did the thing correctly or not as I’m not good at computer technology

  26. I keep getting an error everytime I visit my .com name. I am using blogger as the “host” instead of paying a separate web host correct? I am just checking because I double checked everything twice and made sure I followed each step exactly to the T. Could it just be taking too long to go through?!

  30. I used this and it was fantastic. Namecheap and Blogspot just do not have awesome instructions.

    I do have a question, is there a way to set it up so the url will work with or without the www? I get a 404 if I dont put the www in my url and Id like it to work with or without.

    1) Enter “http://www.yoursite.com” as your destination URL in the @ field under Host Name.
    2) Choose redirection type “URL Redirect”.

    Google updated the Custom Domain setup process in late September. After update, there are 2 CNAME records required to be set up for Blogger. Many tutorials on Internet are not working any more because of without update.

    You should update this. As the comment by Govind Choudhary explains, some things have changed and there is an error (error 12) on blogger when you do this.
    you have to do an extra step… which Govind explains, but perhaps you should add this step.

    im having the same issues Ariel Avalon did…
    and i need to know WHERE you do that:
    1) Enter “http://www.yoursite.com” as your destination URL in the @ field under Host Name.
    2) Choose redirection type “URL Redirect”.

    is this in namecheap? because im pretty sure it already has that… and I dont know how to fix it. Or is it in blogger that I should add the http:// ??
